![]() Coffees are described using a wide array of terms, but the most important are flavour, acidity and body. Espresso coffees differ for a variety of reasons, including cultivation practices, growing area, altitude, soil, and climate. Like fine wines, a good espresso will also vary from country to country, region to region, and year to year. Here in Singapore, we put our taste buds to the test and review six of the top coffee shops to see how they fare. TCC (The Coffee Connoisseur)Perfectly pulled with just a hint of almond flavouring to the roast, this espresso is the perfect pick-me-up. The coffee left no bitter after taste, and the waiter properly served it with a side glass of water. Sure you pay a little more, but it's well worth it. ![]() A well blended, smooth yet strong cup of espresso, with a dark nature just perfect for contemplation and motivation. You can tell by the pleasant aftertaste & earthy aroma that Spinelli's has successfully transplanted their famous SF standards to Singapore. ![]() Quick and friendly service is this cafe's claim to fame, and their espresso is as humble as the staff. Woodsy and hearty, it has a good kick caffeine-wise. The froth doesn't fade and this cup tastes like a good espresso should, delicious! ![]() Coffee Club is a superb place for coffee. They are very consistent with good coffee, which is a sign of quality Baristas. My espresso was creamy, strong and superbly made, full, sweetly acidic, and cleanly smooth. And it came with shortbread! ![]() Starbucks is known for its great chilled beverages and strong large cups of brewed coffee, which always keeps me coming in. However, I found their espresso a bit weak, and the aftertaste was very bitter to my palette. It's ok for a quick on-the-go, but not for connoisseurs. ![]() If you like a good strong espresso, then you can't beat Cosi. They boast the biggest single espresso, with a good rich head and hearty good coffee flavour and aroma. The perfect start to your day!
