Tales of a Hungry Bunny - Chapter 21 (Going North, Indian that is.)
Written by Daisy Blaze

Lately I've been craving something a little bit less ching chong, yet nothing as predicatable as ang mo chow. Sure, Malaysian food is simple and filling, and in a normal mood quite tasty. But today, I was feeling in the mood for change. Perhaps it's because I'm settling into a groove with my new boyfriend that's making it seem like everything's in a rut, including my tastebuds. So it was with this malaise that I set out one early evening without any desitnation in mind.

A
fter a happy hour beer at the Gashaus and a peek around Bugis Street, I walked towards Chijmes to see what's new... other than a poster for the Chijmes Jazz fest in October (mental note; you now have a reason to buy that little red dress) I walked towards Chinatown and decided to check out the new Clarke Quay. I happened upon Ivory, a lush and posh North Indian restaurant located in the heart of Clarke Quay, just above The One Night Stand.

Curious, I went into the restaurant, and was pleasantly taken aback by the amazing interior decor which caters well to a fancy meal with friends, it's such a relaxing environment. Overlooking the Waterfront, which adds in a wonderful atmosphere to your dining experience, maybe I'll try it out with a mind to bringing dear boyfirend soon.

After dining, your party (including yourself, of course) can lounge at the Shisha Bar and enjoy a wide variety of drinks, genuine Indian tapas and the ever-fragrant Shisha.

DJ Girish, the resident DJ, will pleasure your senses with his versatile and unique style of music, spinning anything from lounge to retro, to bhangra and progressive house. His signature hip-hop, house progressive and euro-trance sessions have won many accolades in India as well as in the international scene.

The menu is inspired by the coastal region which encompasses the most diverse styles of food in india. Distinct in the manner in which ingredients and spices are used and prepared, internationally acclaimed Celebrity Chef Wali Ahmad was specially chosen to head the restaurant's kitchen.

With an expertise in Coastal Cuisine, Chef Wali will not fail to impress with his exotic, often original selection of contemporary, novel style Indian creations prepared in a traditional methods but presented according to international standards.

With delectable vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes on the menu, there is something for everyone at Ivory from appetizers to desserts.

Two of the restaurant's signature dishes by Chef Wali are the Malabari Trio - an irresistible combination platter of succulent spicy tiger prawns, chilli fried chicken with red pepper lamb that offers different flavours, tastes, and textures all in one dish; and Matki Dum Murgh - chicken that has been lovingly prepared over a slow fire with a hint of saffron and green cardamom.

For the vege-lovers, the palate-pleasing Methi Sag Reshmi Paneer is a dish not to be missed - mouth melting fenugreek flavoured fried chopped spinach and cottage cheese topped with a silky cashew, onion-based sauce.

Probably the first in Singapore, the bar will offer a delectable selection of Indian Tapas with menu offerings like the lip smacking Crispy Lamb Rolls - grilled baby lamb stuffed with brown onion and spices served on a bed of mint sauce, and Crispy Cheese Tikki Patties created with grated Indian cottage cheese patties and potatoes topped with tamarind and mint chutney guaranteed to whet appetites and keep hunger pangs at bay and a fully stocked bar, the drink menu boasts a comprehensive selection of red and white wine, even from exotic locales like India and Chile, and includes unusual cocktails like Five Wise Men and Fallen Angel. With it's unique identity this restaurant sets itself apart from the competition.
