Do you love good music with great food? Then the inaugural Club Street Culinary and Jazz Festival 2005 is the place you have to be! ![]()
I t kicks off on Saturday, Nov. 19th at 5pm and has an exciting line-up promised featuring various artists, plus cool fashion and gourmet booths, live entertainment, culinary showcases, bistro-style alfresco cafes, spacious wine & beer gardens and hands-on art projects. What makes this year special is because the residents of Club Street, Ann Siang Road and Ann Siang Hill will be holding not one but two Festivals back-to-back! The first will be the inaugural Club Street Culinary & Jazz Festival, and the second will be the Club Street Fashion & Gourmet Festival, to be held on Saturday, 10 December 2005. The first one, the Club Street Culinary and Jazz Festival, is in celebration of the energy, vibrant colours and eclecticism that is Club Street. From 5pm till midnight, Club Street will be bursting with an exciting line-up of activities and performances such as jazz performances, fire jugglers, bartenders' flaring competition and culinary showcases. Visitors can also expect a host of stalls selling creative arts and crafts, fashion, accessories and food, as well as alfresco dining areas for you to wine and dine while enjoying the bustling activities going on along the street. Designed to celebrate Club Street's diverse and extraordinary mix of styles ranging from classic chic to avant-garde boheme, Mr. Michael Ma, founder of the IndoChine Group, has been spearheading this project to fervently promote the rejuvenation of Club Street.
Together with members of the Club Street Association (including established food and beverage businesses like Senso, Bar SaVanh, Spizza, Jerry's BBQ and boutique hotel, The Scarlet; lifestyle shops such as Design Unit, Venue, Vanilla Home and Earth Sanctuary Day Spa), he envisions a large-scale jazz and culinary festival that reflects the collective mix of creative minds in an exciting, colourful and lively fashion. Local jazz legends Jeremy Monteiro and Clarissa Monteiro will be entertaining the visitors during the festival with their unique brand of jazzy soulful tunes. Jeremy, a composer and vocalist, has been called by Chicago Jazz Magazine "a technically dazzling pianist and a consistently excellent vocalist" Expect to be delighted with them providing the background soundtrack to an evening of busking and great gourmet snacks. Various jazz-themed bands will also be performing throughout the day on a staging located at the highest point of Club Street, immediately opposite Barrio Chino. The musicians featured will be both aspiring and professional artistes willing to showcase their talent to the Club Street crowds, featuring a blend of up-tempo sounds and down-tempo beats, which promises to keep everyone in a festive mood all night long. Street vendors reminiscent of renowned marketplaces such as Paddington in Sydney and Covent Garden in London, will transform Club Street into a bazaar with a Singaporean flair. These stalls placed along the street to allow Club Street retailers and F&B outlets to showcase their goods and products to all guests and visitors to the Festival. This will certainly allow one and all to savour and sample the myriad of inimitable characters that contribute to the authenticity of Club Street's unique identity. - Club Street Culinary & Jazz Festival, Sat., 19/11/05 & the Club Street Fashion & Gourmet Festival, Sat., 10/12/05. |
