At least it's healthier and you'll be killing two birds with one stone. It's time to clear the misconception that vegetarian food is all mucky yucky greens that taste no better than tissue. Let me fill you in on some of the yummiest and cheapest vegetarian haunts. Situated in the heart of the CBD (Central Business District) is a cosy little haven for vegetarians looking for a tasty satisfying meal.

The South Indian vegetarian chain which goes by the name of Saravana Bhavan also has outlets in India and I think I know why. With food as authentic and delicious as this, I guess you just got to spread it around. The dosa is one of their more popular dishes and trust me, with prices that go as low as $2, you're definitely getting your money's worth.

I tried the paper roast masala and was literally bowled over. Firstly, not only was the portion huge, it was also tasty and quite impressive; considering that I paid only $3.20. Served on a metal tray, the paper roast was like a huge rolled up crispy pancake that was about one and a half feet long.

Stuffed with some potato masala filling, and served with three different coconut based condiments and a saucer of smooth delightful curry, it was certainly yummy. Try also their mango lassi, a yoghurt based Indian dessert drink. Saravana Bhavan is located at 63 Robinson Rd. Opens Monday to Friday 11.30am - 9.30pm, Saturday 10am - 9.30pm. If you're looking for an organic experience, then you have to drop by Yogi House. This vegetarian haunt uses mostly organic vegetables and no, they do not use coconut milk. They use oat milk or soy milk instead. And there's no way you will find your typical peanut or cashew nuts in this place. They use sesame seeds as a substitute, and they also have a bakery. Selling mostly local food, this place just makes you feel so much healthier.

Try the gado gado, which is a Malay dish that uses beancurd and vegetables like cucumber and beansprouts - definitely a fibre laden food. For dessert, I recommend the bo bo cha cha, which is made using only vegetarian ingredients so really, you have nothing to worry about. I promise that you will step out of here feeling really good about yourself. Yogi House is located at 1 Boon Tat St. They are open Monday through Friday 11.30am - 7pm, Saturday 11.30am - 4pm. Closed on Sundays and public holidays.

For the more adventurous, I'd recommend Choo Zai Zhai. This vegetarian stall serves up some rather interesting dishes that will have you intrigued. There's no need to be put off when you find that they sell ginger kidney or pepper liver soup.It's all mock stuff. They also sell tom yam fish and satay. Their oyster omelette is a must-try, simply because of the mock oysters they use.

That's right, they replace the oysters with mushrooms, thus making this a rather healthier version than the original. This stall has been around for more than 20 years and does indeed prove to be a veteran at all things vegetarian.
