There's life in that old building...
I n a funky old building from the 50s that has somehow escaped the scourge of continual urban renewal, an amazing post-war building with an art decor facade has come to life as a new hybrid space consisting of a chillout bar and an art gallery specialising in graphic art, called Night & Day Bar + Gallery + Friends, (located at 139 Selegie Road in Little India). In this dual use art space set up by the visionary duo Kelly Cheng and Randy Chan, the show I saw was an attempt by an artist, an architect and a photographer to retell the building's stories through their art installations, paintings and photographs, and was simply fascinating. That exhibition, curated by David Chew, was called "Gossip" and featured works by Hong Sek Chern, Randy Chan and Ung Ruey Loon. It was a series of six exhibitions featuring 12 up-and-coming local graphic artists, and runs from August '07h 'til January '08, featuring two artists per month. Le monde est a nous - The World is Ours: Series II featured Kuanth (top) and Sokkuan (right) starting off the series with some really innovative pieces, well worth checking out.
