West Key Oyster Bar & Western SeafoodLocated in the heart of Boat Quay, West Key Oyster Bar & Western Seafood exudes a rather quaint and elegant ambience. It faces the Singapore river with a delicate sea breeze to boot.

Diners looking for a romantic night out can simply dine alfresco and simply enjoy the cool night sky. However, the main highlight is definitely the scrumptious fare the restaurant whips up. The owner and executive chef of the place is none other than Nahid, a 34-year old Bangladesh native who came to Singapore 14 years ago to test his culinary skills.

The former ‘Key Largo’ chef is well known for the way he prepares and cooks his oysters. Key Largo is a western restaurant at which he worked at for three years before it closed down.

Being the talented chef he is, Nahid even came up with an entire menu for West Key from scratch. Opened since August 20th of this year, Nahid never fails to amaze hungry diners with his oyster, seafood and western dishes.

A must-try is the oyster Kilpatrick which is simply delectable. It’s a baked oyster topped with pepperoni sauce and bacon bits. The wine sauce and shallots meld well with the whole package. One bite and you’ll be hooked. And of course, their fresh oysters are top quality.

Try the Canadian Pacific oyster and just savour the immediate freshness that hits you once you sink your teeth in. Avid carnivores, don’t worry, there’s something for you too. Their pepper steak is grilled to perfection and served with such fragrant black pepper sauce that you wish you could replicate it at home.

The accompaniments are just as note worthy. Their herbed potatoes have such a crisp skin that you wonder how they actually manage to bake it so well. Seafood fans should try the Neptune Seafood Delight, which is a combination of snapper, grilled salmon, prawns, crayfish and green mussels. The entire gem is then covered in either the lemon butter sauce or Mediterranean sauce, whichever pleases your palate. The tangy, tasty feel of the lemon butter sauce suits the fish well though.

Anyway if you are a die-hard local food person, then I would recommend Nahid’s aromatic crab meat fried rice that taste as oriental as it’s meant to be. With an extensive menu that will impress even the most skeptical of diners, Nahid really drives home the point of providing quality good food to all his customers.

His dedication shows in the way his dishes are prepared and served. He cooks most of the orders and also mingles with his diners from time to time. A meal at West Key is indeed an unforgettable experience and would make you want to go back for seconds.
