The Pasta Shop boasts 55 types of pasta, as well as eight choices of pizza, Japanese-style burgers and curries. Offering pasta with soup, cream sauce, tomato, basil, Bolognese, basil and original Japanese flavours, it’s literally impossible to come to a quick decision. Indeed the whole menu needs to be perused at least once in order to reach an informed decision, and even then you’ll go back to it and change your mind several times.
It was generally agreed around the table that we should have ordered more of the Buta No Kakuni, as it seemed no one could get enough of it. The braised pork with its unique homemade sauce was delicious and apparently a favourite with regular diners.
Likewise, the square pizza with its unusual flavours was a great twist on the Italian-style, and with its thin-crust, didn’t feel too sinful. If you’re a fan of Japanese curry, try the deep-fried dory with rice the gravy is thick and fruity with tons more flavour than the packet variety.
I can’t even mention the desserts without my mouth watering. I’m usually quite happy to steal a mouthful of someone else’s cake, but here the desserts were the icing on the cake. I was unable to stop myself from polishing off the crème brulee, green tea tiramisu and green tea pudding with red bean. All were without doubt some of the best I’ve ever tasted.
Although there are soups and salads available, this is definitely not the place to come if you’re watching your weight, as the extensive menu is just too tempting. Being a big fan of their desserts, the afternoon tea deal (from 3-5.30pm) is particularly appealing. At $6.50++ you can get coffee or green tea with a pudding or a choice of two pastas and four pizzas. They also deliver – call 6273 3720 between 11.30am and 6pm.
