As well as sashimi, sushi and B-B-Q sticks they offer noodle and salad dishes, hot and cold appetisers and desserts. This is an excellent place to try out Japanese cuisine or share your passion for the food with those who’ve not yet experienced it.

The inside of the restaurant is quite homely and snug, with stylish lighting and decor that creates a sophisticated but understated effect. This is not an intimidating dining experience; it’s all about the food.

Outside bench seating can be enjoyed by groups of friends and colleagues, as well as families. The food is well presented and there’s no skimping on the portions.

Our tempura mushrooms totaled eight juicy shitakes and costs only $8. The friendly service and the beer also improve the meal, with Asahi on tap and happy hour prices.

A couple of not so common regional beers and teas are served if you fancy something different. Get a table near the road in the early evening and you can enjoy watching the sun come down over the ornate frontages of Muhammad Sultan Road.

Or come by later in the evening as this part of town livens up; retire to the sake lounge after your meal. The lounge is a dark and sultry spot, perfect for an illicit rendezvous. A range of sake and shochu is served, beautifully crafted vessels are used in keeping with the Japanese penchant for the aesthetic. A hearty dinner with beer comes to around $80-90 for two.
